Cognitive development activities can be anything that stimulates the child's mind. Some activities for cognitive development are as follows.

Infancy
  • talk to baby
  • play with the baby
  • Showing the baby toys with different textures and colors
  • sing to them
  • let them watch colorful videos and pictures
  • tearing up paper can be expanding your babies mind.
  • Have a mobile hanging over baby's crib for him to look at


Toddler Activities

  • reading to your toddler
  • giving them "jobs" to do with help.  
  • Set out 2 or 3 different pieces of colored paper then give your toddler or young child a handful of objects. Help the child sort these objects by placing them on the piece of paper with the matching color.
  • Begin working with your toddler to learn to count from 1-10
  • Begin teaching your toddler how to spell his or her name
  • Sing songs with your child! Buy a child's CD or simply show them song videos from YouTube.

Early Childhood

  • In early childhood reading to your children is a great activity for cognitive development.
  • Have your child count things in his environment.
  • Set up pretend stages and have you child act out their favorite book or movie.

Middle Childhood

  • Give your child a  photo and have the "write this story"
  • Give your child a bottle of diet soda and a mentos, instruct them to go outside and drop a mentos into the bottle of soda and write about what happened and why they thing it happened.

Adolescence

  • Visit a local museum with your child
  • Go see a movie and ask your child questions about the validity of the scenario and what he or she would've done if they had been in the place of the main character.
